What do you get when a State Senator, State Representative, and a City Council Member are put in the same room? (You are going to have to wait for the punchline)
First......SMACK, SMACK!!!! Well slap our hands for not updating our blog since Father's Day. The summer heated up and things just started getting out of control around here - in so many good ways. I don't even know where to start so I'm going to just jump forward to today because that is all that is relevant anyways:-)
The last couple of weeks there has been several articles in the Daily Pilot Newspaper talking about people going hungry and the Someone Cares Soup Kitchen being broke and out of food. To us over here at Daddy Cakes® it just didn't seem right. Sure, when the economy is soaring and jobs are abundant....it seems like something like a soup kitchen would almost be optional in utopia. When the euphoria of good times becomes less than shiny and things like unemployment hit double digits it seems like that is the exact time that something like a soup kitchen would really be relevant and fully charged ready to help.
Unfortunately, according to some late breaking news....there is little to nothing available to help those in need unless they can trade in their clunker to finance a new car that they may not be able to afford - maybe that is the new housing plan....I digress....Okay, so here's the deal....
Like any good Dad, Daddy Cakes® decided to take positive action, set a good example, get people involved, have some fun and give the people what they want.....FOOD!
Now like so many things Daddy Cakes does, we want to make it about people, make it better, more interesting, and always more fun. So, we reached out to some key people that really care for people and work hard trying to make the world a better place - Daddy Cakes contacted the local City Council Officials, California State Representatives and that is who will be personally helping out at the event & flipping some Daddy Cakes®.
California State Senator Tom Harman, California State Assemblyman Van Tran, and Costa Mesa Council Member Katrina Foley are joining Daddy Cakes® to serve a pancake breakfast at the Lighthouse in Costa Mesa shelter. As the hosts of a traditional pancake breakfast for about 250 homeless and others in need at The Lighthouse in Costa Mesa.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 22
9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
The Lighthouse in Costa Mesa, 1885 Anaheim St.
In addition to the wholesome flavors of Daddy Cakes pancakes, The Lighthouse will provide eggs and coffee, and the event will be coordinated with the help of the Someone Cares Soup Kitchen in Costa Mesa, the organization that usually serves breakfast in the area on Saturday.
At the bottom of this blog are the articles about the Someone Cares Soup Kitchen that helped mobilize this breakfast. Daddy Cakes® will be providing more than 500 meals through this breakfast and our donations into the food boxes that are provided to those in need by the shelter. We really want to say "Thanks" to our local Representatives that are putting their time into supporting our neighbors that are experiencing hard times.
Most importantly, we really want to let everyone know that enjoys Daddy Cakes® that we appreciate you! Your gift giving, sharing, enjoyment, and fun that you enjoy when you buy Daddy Cakes® makes it possible for all of us to be part of this type community support together.
Are you still waiting for the punchline? There isn't one. If you have a moment, write a comment at the bottom and let them know your thoughts. Have Fun and pass it along!
