When we were kids we lived in the country and would travel into the woods to find berry patches all around. Timing was everything - when the fruit was ripe we would have to get to it before the birds, bears, and other animals ate the entire patch of berries. Once we filled our buckets we would return home and Mom would cook & bottle the berries into delicious preserves like Jams, Jellies, and Syrups. Today, it's still not too different except without spending hours & hours picking berries, getting stained fingertips.
